Sunday, 27 July 2014 saw the Finale of Big Brother Angola with Luis Larma da Silva Andrade (aka Larama) from Luanda scooping the grand $100, 000 USD prize. Surprisingly, Larama was not a favourite at the start, he left the House earlier in the Season following a fake Eviction. If you were wondering where he was, he spent two whole weeks in an adjacent House and found himself back in the Game by audience Vote. Clearly he was missed as he remained a firm favourite for the duration.

Big Brother Angola hit DStv small screens in Angola, Mozambique and South Africa on 25 May 2014. A first to market for Africa, the show was a massive project to coordinate as all online communication had to be in Portuguese, and not only in ordinary Portuguese, Angolan dialect Portuguese. Picture it, a House populated with Angolans, in South Africa with a Portuguese and South African Don’t Look Down team. Language barriers were overcome, social barriers were overcome and the show exceeded all expectations through team cohesion.

During the two months Big Brother Angola unfolded, the new media team grew a social community from zero to 200,000 across four platforms; namely Facebook, WeChat, Twitter and Instagram. WeChat was a completely new platform for the Angolan market with 35,000 members contributing to Big Brother Angola by the end of the Season. This was seen as a massive achievement as data charges in Angola are notoriously high.

The project had the support of Angolan celebrity and ex-Big Brother Africa Housemate, Weza Solange who worked within the online and new media team, a great bonus to the project as she had key insight into the other side of the divide.

Big congratulations to Larama who triumphed against the twists and turns of the Saboteur, the Kamba Necklace and fake Nominations.

However it’s not the end; the new media team never rests as we anticipate the launch of Big Brother Africa Season 9 on 7 September 2014, with the hope of it being the best and the Biggest Big Brother Africa yet.
