DLD Fuels DStv On Demand

The continent’s premiere satellite TV operator, DStv, has planted one foot firmly into television’s future with DStv On Demand, and Don’t Look Down’s team is assisting them to supply this groundbreaking non-linear viewing service.

DStv On Demand allows subscribers to the traditional TV service to watch items from across the operator’s bouquet of channels on their PCs  – for free.

This January, DStv On Demand’s “Catch Up” offering is full of on-demand episodes of some TV favourites. These popular shows will appear online the day after originally being broadcast on DStv channels like M-Net, Action, Series and Vuzu, and will be available for 7 days.

Series to look out for include the science fiction drama Fringe, the nerd-turned-spy action comedy Chuck and the Superman saga Smallville. Also available to watch whenever it suits the viewer are comedies including The Middle (starring Patricia Heaton from Everybody Loves Raymond fame), the ever popular Desperate Housewives, Courtney Cox’s Cougar Town and the Golden Globe-nominated 30 Rock.

Additionally, in January 2011, DStv On Demand’s “Catch Up” offering is showcasing 35 Hollywood blockbusters.

Among the new and big titles to look forward to are Knowing, a sci-fi thriller starring Nicolas Cage, Tim Burton’s fantasy adventure Alice in Wonderland (featuring the ever-versatile Johnny Depp) and Ang Lee’s comic book adaptation, The Hulk, with Eric Bana and Jennifer Connelly.

You can also “Catch Up” on classics like Raising Helen, Casino and Born on the 4th of July, and all are available for 30 days following their initial broadcast on the box.

Local is always lekker and on DStv On Demand, that’s no different: the premium service is also serving up loads of South African content from channels like kykNET, M-Net, MK and Channel O.

These include popular kykNET shows like Oor die Kole (a chat show hosted by rugby legends Kobus Wiese and Toks van der Linde), the soapie Villa Rosa and variety show Kwela.

On the M-Net side, be sure not to miss out on acclaimed local soap drama Binneland Sub Judice, the variety programme All Access and head-over-heels hit show Prankz, hosted by Whackhead Simpson. Beats junkies are also catered for with Channel O’s Headrush and MK’s JiP. Local shows are also available for a maximum of 30 days.

Remember, in order to “catch up”, users need to be Premium DStv and MWEB subscribers to access the service for free. Visit http://ondemand.dstv.com for to see (and watch) what’s on offer.
