Unlimited Hip Hop

Don’t Look Down just wrapped up work on the first Vodacom Unlimited Hip Hop event at The Assembly in Cape Town (on Thu 3 November) – with some major successes.

Vodacom are becoming ever more aligned with music and Don’t Look Down are assisting this endeavour on many fronts. For Vodacom Unlimited’s first hip hop venture they hooked up with the Mother City’s Good Hope FM to throw a party with a seriously sick line-up – and one that represented the the four key pillars of hip hop culture.

On the bill were amazing emcees AKA and the prolific Youngsta; DJs Ready D and his Beat Bangaz crew, plus the likes of Leo Large, GHFM’s Tyrone Paulsen and Codax; graffiti writer Slate; and B-Boy crew Street Stylerz.

Don’t Look Down assisted Vodacom to represent hip hop to its fullest extent by setting up the Vodacom Unlimited Hip Hop fan page and event on Facebook, which it kept regularly updated with all the party info, factoids on the acts performing and a slew of video clips (which can all be seen here).

Before the event, Don’t Look Down shot a number of interviews with key artists to drum up excitement for the event and canvassed Twitter for questions for headliner AKA. The #QAndAKA session went so well that on the day of the interview @Vodacom_HipHop¬†(the Twitter feed also set up and seeded by Don’t Look Down)¬†trended in South Africa!

DLD got AKA to answer the best questions tweeted – you can see that cool clip above. Don’t Look Down also shot interviews with artists and punters at the event itself, and the sentiment from all towards Vodacom for putting its substantial weight behind genuine hip hop culture was overwhelming – Youngsta even freestyled a big-up to the company in this clip!

Thanks to Don’t Look Down’s expertise and efforts, Vodacom is helping make South African hip hop even bigger…
