Don’t Look Down at #SAFTAS10

#SAFTAS10 Don’t Look Down prides itself on its world-class productions and this year’s SAFTA awards (#SAFTAS10) bears testament to this with no less than four nominations for DLD productions. However, a special mention goes out to Don’t Look Down’s very own Kudeni Masala on being nominated for best actor in a made-for-TV movie. The story goes that, having been left in the lurch by the lead actor on the first day of shooting for the first in a series of made-for-TV films commissioned by Mzansi Magic, Kudeni (having written his first script along with fellow screenplay debutant Patrick Rabiega) was going to have to play the lead role. In a short space of time Kudeni had gone from graveyard shift moderator for DLDE on Big Brother, to content creation on DailySunTV, to script writer, to lead male on a TV movie! As for the rest of the nominations, Galaxy of Stars (best Variety Show) for M-Net was the culmination of collaborative creativity and technologically relentless, world-class staging spanning more than a decade. Don’t Look Down was even crazy enough to open M-Net’s biggest ever stakeholder property with the elaborate failing of a giant DSTV remote during the opening moment of the show – in front of the entire Multichoice board – only to be revealed as a Schuster prank. I Am (Best talk Show) was the continuation of our unique AV class lighting and production design approach to conventional TV, masterfully crafted in edit with world-class sound design and celeb guest appearances. Lastly, Don’t Look Down received two nominations in the category Best Music Show for Sessions for ’76 & Unbanned. UPDATE: Don’t look down took home two awards at the SAFTA Awards one for Best Variety Show (Galaxy of Stars) and one for Best Music Show (Sessions of ’76). Don't Look Down took home two SAFTA Awards
