Not even the Covid-19 pandemic could stop Africa’s biggest reality show from beaming into millions of television screens across Africa for its season 5 debut on Sunday 19 July amidst a worldwide lockdown.

Aptly themed ‘Lockdown’, the production of Big Brother Naija season 5 is the epitome of adapting to the new normal – and Don’t Look Down is right there in the digital frontline. Auditions were held completely online and received around 30 000 entries. The final shortlisted Housemates were tested for Covid-19 and placed in quarantine for 14 days. It was only when the all-clear was given that the final 20 made their way into Biggie’s House to serve us plenty drama. They have not disappointed in this regard as Big Brother fans have already been served with ships, cliques and gbas gbos that continues to steady dominate Twitter trends daily.

The DLD digital team has had to adjust accordingly and assemble a team based in South Africa and Nigeria to navigate producing cutting edge content in cities that are under curfews and residents being subject to limited movement. This has however not taken anything away from the online experience of the show as fans continue to grow and engage as well as Vote for their favourite Housemates in record setting numbers.

The show will culminate in a finale on Sunday 27 September where the winner will walk away with prizes to the value of N85 million – the highest prize value on any reality television show on the continent!

The 24-hour feed of the show can be watched on channel 198 on DStv and channel 29 on GOtv. The Live Sunday Eviction show is however broadcast weekly at 19:00 WAT Africa Magic Showcase (DStv Channel 151), Africa Magic Urban (DStv Channel 153), Africa Magic Family (DStv Channel 154) and GOtv channel 2.
